I think its important to get the parents involved more in the classroom and the community. The more the child sees and hears the more they will learn. Also, every family should have the opportunity to share their own life experiences, having to do with their culture, race, ethnicity, gender roles, and just every day life. This gives children the insight of different peoples lives and understand that everyone is different because of the way they think and feel.

The first step in encouraging parents is to get to know the child and the family. Since the parent is the "expert" about the child, inviting the parent to come in and talk to you about their child is a great investment in partnership. This can also be done through a form or email. Giving the parent lots of opportunities to tell the teacher and school about their culture as well as about how their child learns is a great beginning.
In these communications, respect and acceptance must be absolutely evident to the parent.

Family conferences, parent education events, opportunities to visit and participation in the classroom all help families feel comfortable at the child's school or daycare.

Lastly, an open, friendly attitude and demeanor help parents feel comfortable and supported. They hopefully will feel open to sharing joys as well as challenges, knowing the school is there to support them!

The more we as educators know about the children and families in our care, the better we can partner with them!

To make sure all families receive encouragement in supporting the development of their children it is important to show respect for each families values and goals for their child. By keeping communication open and active and by having opportunities for regular involvement in the classroom, families and teachers can be informed of the child's needs and help them build respectful relationships with others in their school community. Learning about each child and their family and encouraging them to share, learn from and celebrate differences and similarities with others in the classroom and throughout the world can help all the children's development.

I think it begins with knowing the child and their family. This can happen through an initial survey upon enrollment, warm communicative interactions (body language if unable to converse), invitations to linger in the classroom and to community building events. Respect and acceptance are key to all interactions. Asking questions and genuine interest communicate that you care and value their contributions.

To make sure that all families receive encouragement in their child's development I think it is important for teachers to reach out to parents to talk about their own cultural differences and what can be done to make the child more comfortable in the classroom. I think that it is important for the teacher to know more about the family so that they can work a plan that works for each and every family.

Present oneself as a willing partner who has much to learn from the family- about their child, about their culture, about the challenges they face as a family. Find ways to help families make connections with other families in the school as not everyone is comfortable doing this or even perceives the value in it.

Providers should have resources to help children and their families. Having information in many languages can be useful as well. Constantly working on the parent and provider/teacher relationship. Making sure all families know they have someone who can find the resources or be the resource to someone who can help, whether its financially, or getting food stamps, getting support from the community, finding a church or temple if they're new to the area. We want families and children to have a good and comfortable quality of life.

Make parents feel welcome and appreciated. Invite them to picnics, community(school) clean-up projects, school celebrations etc. As a school community we need to blend together talk together to learn to understand each other.

Make the parents part of the classroom and school community. Our school has a Thanksgiving feast, where parents are invited to help serve food, and experience the school.

I also think it's important for the parents to be made to feel as though they are "part of the team" for the school year. I encourage parents to ask questions, visit, send feedback on assignments/projects/homework. As long as the parents are encouraged to be a part of the community, then it becomes that much easier to speak with them regarding their child's development.

Clear communication is key. I would start with a curriculum night, and provide classroom information as well as ask for input from the families. I would invite the parents to come to the classroom at any appropriate time and share anything pertaining to holidays and traditions important to them. Consistent and frequent correspondences with families are very important. Families should be updated on what is happening in the classroom. Friendly conversations and honesty go a long way.

As early childhood educators, all we can really do is make our families feel welcome and supported in the classroom. Any opportunities we have to bring parents into the classroom to share something about their family and culture not only supports the child's cultural identity, but makes the parent feel welcome and understand more about their child's school life. School is such an important part of a child's culture, and I think it is easy for us to forget that parents don't always understand what that is like, or what their child does all day long. Establishing two way communication is important for the teacher, the parent, and the child.

I believe it's important to make all the parents feel welcome, and that they have a voice in the community of the classroom. Having cultural nights celebrating the diversity in the classroom is a no-brainer. Having the children talk about some of their traditions at home during circle, bringing in favorite music to share with the class. Communicate, communicate communicate1 Parents should have a very clear idea of what the child's day looks like on a pretty regular basis.

I think it is very important to have parent involvement. An open line of communication is key. Letting them visit the class room and see their children in action. Have an parent info wall, with an activity calendar,

To make sure all families receive encouragement in supporting the development of their children I believe a patient, understanding, and welcoming environment is key. Families who feel heard and welcomed are more likely to seek out and receive help and encouragement for their children. Encouraging families to be a part of the classroom community is also helpful for teachers to gain insight in how they can better serve their families.

The first step in making sure all families receive encouragement in supporting the development of their children is to make sure every family feels welcome and accepted in your program. Show that you strive to learn about every family in your program. Ensure that all written materials are available in the home languages or your families.

I feel the first, last and most important step is to encourage and allow family involvement in your program.

first of all, you need to build a strong relationship with the parents. that way they"ll be more receptive to suugestions from you. an important point to take into consideration is that the parent is the "expert" and knows the child very well. keep the parents involve in your program that way you can encourage them when needed

Getting to know all of the families in your program is the key in helping all children and families develop their potential. If there is a language barrier, translators should be found. Respect is also of utmost importance, and understanding the background of the family is essential.
